Chateau Figeac 1985, St. Emilion

Utviklet tawny farge mot Cola. Sniff av kork og kjeller. Lyse bær, moden merlot med fioler og pent fatbruk. Snill vin, typisk for årgangen. Parfymert og lett munnfølelse. Behagelig og elegant. 94 poeng. Medtatt av Are.

Vi har hatt denne noen ganger tidligere i vinklubben. Bl.a i vimøte hos Jon i april 2014 og Are tok den med på GF i 2014:

Myk, bretty, løs og lys frukt. Myk, sliten og varm. Endimensjonal, paprika, utvikler kork og mer brettomyces i glasset. Snev av råttent stillestående myrvann. Ikke vurdert og retur til Vinmonopolet.

Denne har prestert bra tidligere: 

GF 2014; Rød med vandig kant. Colafarge. Klassisk med bra struktur. Led nok endel under av at det var pop`n pour. 94 poeng. Medtatt av Are.

Vinmøte Roar 22.9.11: Oversjøisk burgund i nesa mente Kim ! Jeg gjettet både på Felton Road og tysk spâtburgunder ! Men flere var på østside i Bordeaux. Bjørnebær, tobakk, 5-spice, en utrolig spennende vin. Sømløs og flott. Nå helt uten tanniner og vinen drikker usedvanlig godt. Viser at Figeac fremdeles er en spesiell vin i denne klubben ! Kjøpt på spesialslippet Vika november ifjor ? 96 poeng.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1996, Pauillac

Mørkere vin med et tydelig innslag av solbær, krekling og Cabernet Sauvignon (83%). 1995 ? Kompakt og solid, bør fortsatt lagres. Ikke så elegant lafittish med en mineralsk sursøt finish. Litt rar duft med cidertoner (Øistein). En frisk og elegant vin med laang ettersmak. Den første årgangen for Lafite med "anti-fraud" merket flaske. 93 poeng. Medtatt av Jon.

Hermitage "La Chapelle" 1990, Jaboulet

Ruby med vandig kant, ikke alle var i Rhone, men alle kom dit etterhvert. Utviklet sur-søt flaske med litt mye krekling på den syrlige siden. Syltet frukt, usikker på fortsatt lagring. Tror det finnes bedre flasker av denne. Mangler litt god balanse. Skal være en av beste Chapelle`ne ved siden av 1961 og 1978. 94 poeng. Kims flaske.

Chateau Cos d`Estournel 1989, St. Estephe

En rik og frempå rød bordeaux med en litt typisk grønn 1989 touch. (en veldig varm sommer modnet druene for raskt og tanninene ble ikke fullt modne) Tørker litt i finish, men en solid semi-moden vin. Dypt fatkrydret, viser godt slottets rike vinstil. Jeg gjettet 1990. 95 poeng. Medtatt av Knut

Chateau Cheval Blanc 1989, St. Emilion

Floral og lekker nese med innslag av merlot. Jeg gjettet 1990 Chateau Margaux. Gode integrerte tanniner, smooth og pent eika. Kledelig kjellerpreg på nesa. Også her litt grønn stilk, men det gjør vinen friskere. 95 poeng. Roars vin

Øivinds 1ste bidrag. Blodkork deluxe.

Chateau Leoville Lascases 1982, St. Julien

Utviklet med vandig kant. Elegant moden frukt som viser at Lascases trenger 40 år horisontalt. Tørrer litt på finish. Mer mot kirsebær/bjørnebær enn solbær. Sursøt og litt Rhone-aktig. Parker ga den 100 poeng tvert i sin tid. 94 poeng. Medtatt av Øistein

Chateau Montrose 1990, St. Estephe

Utviklet vin, uklar med brett, gjødsel og kumøkk. Jeg var rask på Montrose 1990. En av de beste røde viner Are har smakt og ga den 98 poeng ! Innslag av liljekonvall, sommerblomster, sigar og dypt eksotisk. Rik og elegant, samtidig dyp med en intens konsentrasjon. Lang smeltende ettersmak og igjen en fabelaktig flaske Montrose 1990 !  RED WINE OF THE YEAR 2025 ! 96 poeng. 2ndre vinen til Øivind !

Eksotisk og dyp nese. Litt brettanomyces, men mer ren rødbærsfrukt enn 1989. Lag-på-lag-vin, krydrede liljer, jordlig, går av seg hesteparfymen etterhvert. Ren og fin flaske etter 1 time, litt uenighet om stall/brett, men alle var enig at det var en fantastisk vin. Alle tok denne som en St. Estephe unntagen Knut. Are og Øistein ga den 98 poeng. 97 poeng.

Moderat moden nese med innslag av pepper og i en moden krydret stil. Ekstrem pen vin, fantastisk balanse i vinen. Dette er et eksemplarisk flaske før La Chapelle ble dårligere. 93 poeng

Sliten farge, vandig kant og løs frukt. Våt papp, kjeller og snev av kork. Noen mente det var litt urettferdig men NR...

Ruby, lys kant. En rik vin med snev av ripassosødme. Varm stil, fremdeles solide tanniner med litt stilkete finish. Relativ elegant til å være en Hermitage. 89-91 poeng

Crozes Hermitage La Guiraude 2006, Alain Graillot

Frisk grønt og urtete. Hul frukt som ofte med Crozes, men en veldig godt og balansert vin. Mer Hermitage enn Crozes. Tørre tanniner, bedrer seg i glasset. En strålende Crozes. 91-92 poeng

Cote Rotie 1999, Jamet 

Mørk intens syrahfrukt. Sursøt karakterfull vin fra nord Rhone. Vinen er fremdeles på et optimalt drikkepunkt. Må være en av de beste vinene laget fra Jamet. 96 poeng.

Chateau La Fleur de Gay 1998, Pomerol

Flott pomerol og viser årets storhet på østsiden med innslag av modne plommer, sjokolade og lysere lette bær. Bløt og snill i munnen, dette er 100% Merlot og den første årgangen var 1983. Er en del av eiendommen Le Croix de Gay. Så dette skal være toppcuvèen fra eiendommen med druer fra de eldste merlot druestokkene. 92 poeng

 

Solaia IGT 1998, Antinori

Moderne type vin med sigar og solmodne bær. Ny eik som den har spist en del av allerede. Opulent og intens. Meget vellykket super-toscaner, flott modning og en meget godt sammenskrudd vin. De fleste var i Bordeaux på duft; hvilket må kunne sies å være positivt. Roar mente han sjelden har hatt denne opplevelse med denne type vin, har kun skjedd 2 ganger før på GF; med Sassicaia ! (Wiggo hadde med Sassicaia 1985) 91 poeng.

Igjen god modning, vinen er på et fint platå mht. tilgjengelighet. Fløyel og burgundersk med innslag av sommerblomster og lilje.Men samtidig standhaftig og solid. Ekstrem balanse og her får man litt igjen for at Chave ikke lager «single vineyard» viner. Her er de forskjellige vinmarkene Bressard, Meal etc perfekt blandet sammen ! Innslag av krekling, rått kjøtt og garrigue, en intens og stor vin. Kan fremdeles lagres. 95 poeng

Charmes Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2012, Domaine Bachelet 

Lilla fin fersk farge. Grønn stilk, opulent og utrykksfull. Årgangen 2004 ble nevnt. Uren i stilen, krass, askebeger, mangler den gode balansen. Bertrand hadde denne som sin favorittvin (95p)! Produsenten lager bedre viner fra 2014. Medtatt av Tom. 89 poeng.

Dn.no; Da Denis Bachelet ble født i Spy i Belgia i 1963, var det lite som tilsa at han skulle bli en av Burgunds mest ikoniske vinprodusenter. Som ung besøkte han besteforeldrenes vingård i Gevrey, og ble tidlig betatt av livet i vinens verden. Allerede som 16-åring visste han at det var vinmaker han skulle bli. Etter tre år på vinskole i Beaune begynte han å jobbe sammen med sine besteforeldre. Og i 1981 overtok han deres vingård etter at bestefaren døde.Da han overtok gården var den på skarve 1,8 hektar, bestående av 0,43 hektar i grand cru marken Charmes-Chambertin, og litt premier cru vinmark i Gevrey. Siden besteforeldrene hadde vært mer eller mindre pensjonert siden 1973, måtte alt bygges opp igjen på nytt, dessuten var det vanskelig å leve av underkant av to hektar. Flere vinmarker ble kjøpt, de siste i 2011 i appellasjonen Côte de Nuits Villages og vinmarken Les Evocelles i Gevrey. Denis Bachelet er i fast tro på at en god pinot noir blir til i vinmarken, hvor han utfører alle de nødvendige operasjoner som grønn innhøsting, bladkontroll og sortering for å oppnå de aller beste druene.

Vel inne i kjelleren havner druene på et sorteringsbord hvor alle som ikke har optimal modenhet eller har spor av råte blir plukket bort. Alle druene blir avstilket og deretter lagt på eikefat. Hans eneste grand cru Charmes ligger på rundt halvparten nye fat og halvparten brukte fat, mens de andre vinene har en tredjedel nye fat. 

Chateau Baron de Pichon-Longueville 1982, Pauillac 

Garnet og eldet utviklet farge. Sedertre med mørke solbær med hint av lakris og lær. Pen nese, noe mer skrinn og metallisk i munnen. Bra tanniner fortsatt og strukturen er nogenlunde intakt. Fullmoden som mange 1982 rød Bordeaux er nå. Jeg var på 78/79. Medtatt av Kaare. 92 poeng 

Etna Rosso Vigna Barbagalli 2010, Pietradolce 

Lys leskende Nerello Mascalese, overraskende strukturert med en bitter finish. Lys burgunderaktig munnfølelse. Fragrant, rik og floral med innslag av markjordbær.

Purpur fremdeles ! Pen promp på nesa. En eldet og perfekt flaske. Første årgangen av Dominus var 1983. Superb balanse, fremdeles mye indre kraft. Elegant sniff av sedetre, og kaffe, men alt er sømløst og deilig. Ikke så ulikt Pomerol ! Viser hvor bra US Napa var på 80-tallet. Ingen typisk "Parker-vin" (Han har gitt den 91 poeng) Litt spesielt at han liker å ha en tegning av seg selv på etiketten men.....Medtatt av Kjell A. 96 p.

Dyrepels, våt hund på nesa. Snill med helt avslepne tanniner. Mørk farge fremdeles. Vandig kant. God balanse, men litt karakterløs nå. Drikk opp. Medtatt av Kim. 93 poeng

Utviklet farge med vandig kant. Overraskende drikkeklar. Drikker optimalt nå. Elegant med innslag av høstløv og modne kirsebær. Medtatt av Thomas. 94 poeng

Gunnar; Middels dyp rød, transparent. Mørke bær og roseblader på duft, servert blindt og ingen tvil om at dette er nebbiolo. En ganske "snill" barolo, sødmefull frukt med lett raspende tanniner. På den elegante siden med lang og harmonisk smakskurve, ganske varm i stilen og helt flott å drikke nå,

Moden og mørk frukt. Synes denne var mer eika tidligere; nå fremstår vinen med vital og ungdommelig ren frukt. Med relativ polert for en CR. 92 poeng

Château d’Ampuis is produced by grapes from seven of their own vineyards, Le Clos, La Garde, and La Grande Plantée in Côte Blonde, as well as La Pommière, Le Pavillon Rouge, Le Moulin (not to be confused with La Mouline!), and La Viria in Côte Brune. This means that Château d’Ampuis also is a “Brune et Blonde wine”. This wine was added to the Guigal range from the 1995 vintage, at which time the three LaLa wines had been in existence for a number of years. I assume that with a high demand for the top wines and an increased price difference between the basic Brune et Blonde and the LaLas, it seemed reasonable (and made economic sense) to use the second-best vineyards to produce a wine of higher quality than Brune et Blonde (and sell it at a higher price), rather than to blend these grapes into the Brune et Blonde, where various purchased grapes are also used. The wine’s name has been taken from the building in Ampuis where Guigal is located. Until the 2004 vintage, the wine consisted of six vineyards, and from the 2005 vintage La Viria was also added. There has been rumours that La Viria eventually may become Guigal’s fourth LaLa wine, but for now it is included in the blend that makes up Château d’Ampuis. The production has varied between 20 000 and 37 000 bottles the last six vintages (2004-2009) for an average of just under 30 000 bottles.

Most of Guigal’s wines are characterised by long time in oak and a substantial proportion of new oak barrels being used, 38 months on new oak in the case of Château d’Ampuis, and of the grapes being harvested late. The proportion of Viognier in Château d’Ampuis is given as 5% until the 2004 vintage and as 7% from the 2005 vintage (of a maximum allowed 20%), which is slightly more than for Brune et Blonde (4%), the same as for La Turque (7%) and slightly less than for La Mouline (11%). All Viognier used for Château d’Ampuis is grown in the Côte Blonde vineyards.

As to the style of the wines, I must quote the brick-sized tome The Wines of the Northern Rhône (2005) by John Livingstone-Learmonth, where he summarised Guigal’s five Côte-Rôtie wines with the words “none of these is typical Côte-Rôtie – they are Guigal Côte-Rôties”. On the other hand, Guigal is by far the largest producer in Côte-Rôtie, so in a way the wines of Guigal are in a way representative of Côte-Rôtie, even if the wines of other producers show more obvious “Côte-Rôtie signs” that would make them in one way more typical. The Guigal wines often have sweet fruit, but not that much of green or herbaceous notes, they pack concentration on the palate and come across as less tart or acid-dominated than many other wines. They do have plenty of tannins, but they are often well embedded in the fruit. The spice notes are definitely there – we are after all talking about Northern Rhône Syrah – but the wines aren’t quite as peppery as some of the rest. Similar to most other Côte-Rôties, the wines are flowery and aromatic, but this character originates both from the Syrah grapes and from the generous use of oak. Considering how Guigal has been able to expand their production, and the high scores given to their wines, their style has been quite popular.

Dn.no: 2008. Dufter av honning og søte epler med hint av gjær. Frisk syre og en lett moden frukt på smak med en bløt og fin utgang. 92 poeng. Kr. 725,-

Litt preget av årgangen, mindre spenst, men moden frukt. Men godt trøkk og konsentrasjon og passer således bedre til Foie Gras`en. Fremdeles mulig å kjøpe på VP Grûnerløkka kr. 1 300,- ! 89 poeng

Tror vi krangla litt med nabobordet om denne flasken, men vi vant ! Årgangens modne og opulente stil, men akk så deilig ! Solid og eika, dyr og deilig. Man tror 2003 er for bløt, men årgangen er  overraskende langlivet. 92 poeng.

Ermitage Le Pavillon 2006, Chapoutier
Denne har vel egentlig alltid kommet i skyggen av Chave og Guigal. Unntagen i`"Parker-land" som har vært opp i 100 poeng i noen årganger. Denne er fremdeles ung og vital og kan fortsatt lagres. Kraft og lengde i massevis, men det er endel eik her som skjermer den fine frukten. 91 poeng.

M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon 1994: Den har middels tett rød farge med brunlig kant. Lukten har mørk litt moden frukt mot bjørnebær, men det er også jern, høstløv, sedertre og litt vanilje. Smaken er intens, myk, fyldig og fruktig, og med helt avslepne tanniner. Det er en god struktur og strålende balanse. Ettersmaken er myk, syrlig og lang. Dette skal ha vær et tanin-monster utifra smaksnotater fra 90 tallet, men nå er tanninene helt myke og integrert. Det er også interessant at WS hadde drikkevindu fra 1997 til 2005, mens WA opererte med 2010 til 2040. Denne kan bygge enda mer kompleksitet med videre lagring, men det går helt fint å drikke den nå. Helt strålende faktisk, og den gav en fantastisk drikkeglede! 94 poeng!

Blekkaktig, kald og kjølig. Sigar, eik og moden. Nord-Italia ? Endel, eik, relativt moderne stil og floral tone etterhvert i glasset. Bør drikkes, kommer til å tørke ut. 90-91 poeng.




Domaine de Chevalier 1999, Pessac-Leognan
Sellerirot, klassisk Bordeaux. Snill i munnen og drikker pent nå. Litt flat og kjedelig som Domaine de Chevalier ofte er. 91 poeng.

Knut serverte den samme vinen på sitt vinmøte 24.11.11; Myk bordeaux, bløte tanniner. Rik og spenstig og ypper seg godt mot presumtivt bedre årganger. Deilig fragrant duft. Yngst og best ! 91 poeng

Domaine de Chevalier hides in a pine forest at the western edge of the region known since 1987 as Pessac-Léognan, the more northerly vineyards of Graves. This region is the frontline for the battle of vineyards against the suburbs of Bordeaux. At the northernmost point the two sit uncomfortably together, with the illustrious Chateau Haut-Brion and its counterparts - Laville-, La Mission- and Latour-Haut Brion - encircled by suburban streets. To the west, Chateau Pape-Clément has just a little more breathing space. Further south, past Chambery and Villenave d'Ornon, the majority of the chateaux and vineyards are to be found. Tucked away in the south-western corner, shielded by trees (which can make the property very difficult to locate when visiting) is Domaine de Chevalier.

Although many chateaux in the southern Médoc and Graves have centuries of history, this property dates only from the 18th century, and viticulture only significantly developed at Domaine de Chevalier during the 19th century, although the very first vines were planted long before that. As Bordeaux expanded and the Médoc was drained, opening up the gravelly terroirs of the left bank, one entrepreneur looked south instead of north to establish his vineyard. The man who planted vines on gravelly soils in amongst the trees was named Chibaley, and his venture was successful. His estate was not grand it seems, with small houses and outbuildings the most significant structures (although it is marked on the 1763 map of the region drawn up by Pierre de Belleyme) and he produced up to 15 tonneaux (1 tonneau is 900 litres) of wine per annum. Nevertheless, despite this apparent success things did not continue smoothly; by the early 19th century the land, which now appeared as Chevalier on the maps, fell into disuse, and the pine trees began to reclaim the vineyard.

Several decades passed before the land was to see serious viticulture again, and this came about as the estate was acquired by the Ricard family, successful barrel manufacturers from Léognan. Arnaud Ricard had purchased Malartic-Lagravière in 1850, and she was then looking to expand the family estate even further. They acquired the Chevalier land in 1865, when it was used mainly for agriculture and raising livestock, and the vines were of little importance. It was Jean Ricard that first extended the small vineyard, but it was his son-in-law Gabriel Beaumartin, who took control after Ricard's death in 1900, that began to build up the reputation of the wine with the help of Marcel Doutreloux as manager. The property remained with the Ricard family until 1983, eventually under the guidance of Claude Ricard who had taken control in 1948, and who saw Domaine de Chevalier produce some of its greatest wines - both red and white - during the mid-20th century. Domaine de Chevalier then passed, sadly due to disagreements within the Ricard family consequent upon the Napoleonic laws of inheritance, to Olivier Bernard, who at the time was best known as the owner of a distilling company. Although he did not bring great expertise concerning viticulture this was compensated for by Claude Ricard, who stayed on for many years as advisor, and whose children continue to work at the estate today.

The soil at Domaine de Chevalier is gravelly, as would be expected, with a depth of up to a metre in places, also with some dark sand, over a sandstone bedrock. This is nutritionally destitute soil, well drained, and therefore eminently suitable for the vine. Of 80 hectares there are currently 38 hectares planted up (of which 5 hectares are white varieties), the vines having an average age of 25 years, planted at a density of 10000 vines/ha on the usual rootstocks for Bordeaux, 101-14, 3309 and Riparia, and they are trained using the traditional Double Guyot method. The estate produces both red and white wines, as per the 1959 Graves classification. The white varieties are 30% Semillon and 70% Sauvignon Blanc; the red varieties are 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the balance being 2.5% Cabernet Franc and 2.5% Petit Verdot. There is careful sorting during the harvest, with the white varieties picked by hand during several tries, both white and red go into small baskets, and the red is then sorted again on the table in the winery. Here the vinification is undertaken with advice from oenologist Denis Dubourdieu. The white grapes are pressed and are then fermented in oak barrels after the wine has settled. The reds undergo temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats of varying sizes followed by a cool maceration, limited to 30°C to 32°C, for up to three weeks to extract colour and tannin. The press wine may be blended back into the red, depending on the vintage, sometimes in considerable quantity. Both red and white wines see a period of time in oak, typically eighteen months, with 30% new barrels for the white with bâtonnage to mobilise the lees, 50% new oak for the red. Fining is egg white for the red, bentonite for the white, followed by a light filtration. The grand vin goes under the name of Domaine de Chevalier, whether it be white or red; the former is regarded by many as the greater of the two wines, and has a relatively small production of just 1200 cases. Meanwhile, there are 7000 cases of the red, as well as red and white second wines, 5800 and 800 cases respectively, both called L'Espirit de Chevalier.

During the Bernard era Domaine de Chevalier has either gone downhill to produce light and charmless wines, or has continued to produce classic wines of breed, balance and elegance, depending on which critic you follow. Opinions have differed, noticeably. Having tasted a few vintages I feel the latter more correctly describes the wines; these are structured, classically styled wines which need cellar time and do not necessarily flatter with plump fruit early on in their development. In fact, in very recent vintages they seem all the more superb, and whereas there are many estates that tend to be stronger on either the red or the white wine, at Domaine de Chevalier both can be excellent. Recent vintages such as 2006 show the fabulous appeal that the white can offer, but there have been many other vintages of note, for the red as well. My opinion is that this is undoubtedly a wine to buy with confidence.

Frisk, grønn og korrekt tørr munnfølelse. Nord-rhonsk blod, stram, men samtidig moden og et bra tidspunkt å drikke vinen. Men det er den tørre klassiske stilen som holder den oppe. Beste Sizeranne smakt ? Og vi har drukket endel av denne i klubben..... 92 poeng.

 Beginning to reveal considerable secondary nuances and color development. Opaque purple/garnet with a touch of amber at the edge, this sexy, rich effort is more pleasurable aromatically than on the palate. However, it possesses multiple dimensions as well as abundant aromas of cedar, damp forest, spice box, and Asian spices. The soaring bouquet suggested the wine was more mature in flavor than it turned out to be. The wine is dense, with a firm, noticeably tannic edge, full body, and concentrated, powerful flavors. It is a classy, understated La Chapelle that requires another 5-6 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025

Opulent med fortsatt mye trøkk. Utrolig 99 poengs nese, men litt lett i munnen etter den fantastiske nesa. Noe trang og grønn. Kanskje ikke det helt store potensiale mht. lagring og vinen drikker godt nå. Noe smør og en tydelig moden Cabernet. Vellykket vs. årgangen for røde viner i Toskana.

Chateau Ausone 1988, St. Emilion
Lett i munnen, på grensen til en vandig munnfølelse og en gjenkjennelig Merlotstruktur. Grønn og undermoden fruktkarakter, paprika og den mangler wow-faktor. Som så mange andre Ausone`r.  Men vinen har bra syre og det er ikke noe spesielt galt med den. Den er bare litt kjedelig. 91 poeng

Leskende lett i en solid stil. Gode og litt tørre tanniner som er ganske typisk for årgangen for rød Bordeaux. Men vinen har en xtra dimensjon og eleganse. En av de beste 1988 Bordeaux, men ikke verdt prisen. 94 poeng.

Cassis, cedar, tobacco, graphite, earth and spice on the nose. The wine is full bodied, concentrated and still tannic. The fruit is best described at noble. You can sense its good breeding. But there is an austerity and a hint of under ripeness in the finish that takes away from the wine. The long, rich, cassis and rhubarb filled finish is joy, but the sense of under ripeness takes away from the pleasure. Fans of older, more traditional, less ripe wines will like this more than I did. 94 points - Tasted Jan 4, 2010

With spicy cassis, cigar box, and earthy scents, this full bodied, concentrated wine remains tannic. The style combines regal fruit with some lean qualities. The long blackberry and cassis finish shows a touch of green. Give it another 5 years. 93 points - Aug 9, 2008

Rich, big, ripe, bold, sophisticated, Cabernet fruit with smoky cassis, tobacco and spice tones. This concentrated, full bodied wine fills your palate with dark ripe berries and tannins. Moden duft med lysere fruktbilde og et delikat burgunderaktig tilsnitt. Sigar, lær og fjøs, litt bretty med underskog og sopp.. Kompleks og parfymert og vinen gir mye i glasset. Raffinert og sart nese, snev av pepper, lang ettersmak av skogsbær. Fast og solid. En deilig vin, som viser at Hermitage fra Chave bør ligge i minimum 15 år. Men ingen erketypisk klassisk Hermitage. 94 poeng.

Hermitage La Chapelle 1995, Paul Jaboulet (magnum)

Reduktiv nese med hermetikkboks/mais, lukket og således typisk solid magnum som trenger mere luft før konsum. Kjølig fruktbilde, fokusert og animalsk. Skogbunn med pepper og begynnende utvikling. Markerte tanniner og et godt jordsmonnspreg. Overraskende solid vs. Chave 95 og den stod ikke mye tilbake for denne. Kan være at magnumstørrelsen også spilte inn. Men uansett en av de siste bra Chapellene før de begynte å lage dårligere viner. 94 poeng.

Moden og varm nese, frisk og yppig frukt. Fremdeles gode og solide tanniner. Litt vanskelig nå. Bør ligge. 92 poeng.

Vinmøte Øistein 27.10.11; Mørk og frisk frukt med litt spiss utenpåliggende syre. Kompakt syrah med Grange preg, snev av rosin og de fleste var overseas her. Vinen bør lagres. Litt buljong og lukket og vinen går mere mot Barolo i glasset. 90 poeng.

Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 1996: A really attractive hue here, still plenty of pigment, just showing some appealing maturity, but good depth. And a lovely nose too, full of youthful potential, with bittersweet cherry fruit swirled in little notes of roasted meat, smouldering embers and even touch of rather atypical garrigue. Richly creamy on entry, with a firm presence of rather svelte tannins and fresh acidity, giving a lovely sense of extract, all combined to give a delicious depth and structure. Good cherry fruit too, but overall its the appealing texture and those almost roasted, ripe tannins that impress. There is a presence, a certainty of a fine future here that I find really persuasive, assisted by a decent albeit rather tannic length. Jaboulet has been criticised (perhaps rightly) in recent years for turning out lesser wines (and has been subsequently sold by the family), but it is clear to my palate that whenever the rot set in, it was certainly after the 1996 vintage. Jaboulet was founded in the early 19th Century - history has failed to conserve the exact date for us. All we know is that when records began in 1834, there was a Jaboulet making wine in Tain l'Hermitage. This was the man credited with founding the firm of Jaboulet, Antoine. Antoine Jaboulet had twins (I know how that feels) called Henri and Paul, who were a significant driving force in developing the business, so much so that the full title of the family firm is actually Paul Jaboulet Aîné, named after the elder (aîné) of the two boys.

As the decades passed the family had an abundance of sons to look after the business. Paul's sons Louis and Henri, and Henri's sons Louis and Jean all played their part. Then in the later years of the 20th Century Gérard Jaboulet, son to Louis, took the helm. Gérard died in 1997, and following that tragic event no less than seven members of the Jaboulet family ran the business; Michel, Jacques, Philippe, Odile, Frédéric, Nicolas and Laurent made up the team. Philippe Jaboulet was Director of the Jaboulet estates, a job he took over in 1992, after a nasty scuba-diving accident left former director Jacques Jaboulet disabled. The most significant development in the history of Paul Jaboulet Aîné for many years, however, came late in 2005, with news that the business, complete with vineyards and stock of back vintages, had been sold to the Frey family, who also own Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux. It was reported that French inheritance taxes created the need to sell, but I do wonder whether other reasons, such as a lack of a firm direction, may have played a part.

The Jaboulet range includes appellations from throughout the Rhône Valley, both north and south. It includes a decent Cotes du Rhone Parallèle 45 as well as cuvées from lesser appellations such as Coteaux du Tricastin and there is even a vin de table. As is the case with other top négociants such as Chapoutier and Delas, however, it is in the appellations of the northern Rhône that Jaboulet excels. And although the family own vines in pretty much every significant appellation, it is with Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage that Jaboulet has really established its reputation as an important player in the Rhône Valley. The jewel in the portfolio has usually been the Hermitage La Chapelle, matched only by the white Hermitage Chevalier de Sterimberg (named after the hermit that lived on the site of the chapel on the hill of Hermitage), and all told Jaboulet own approximately 25 hectares of vines on the hill, second only in terms of vineyard holdings to the local (and good value) co-operative in Tain l'Hermitage and Chapoutier. There is another old favourite in the portfolio, this being the excellent value-for-money Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert. In recent years the Jaboulet family had extended their vineyard holdings in the northern Rhône, purchasing the Domaine St Pierre in Cornas in 1993 and the once great Domaine Raymond Roure in Crozes-Hermitage in 1996. Both sites have been sources of fabulous grapes for Jaboulet, bottled bearing the recognisable Jaboulet label, but also bearing the name of the original domaine. One other northern Rhone wine worthy of mention is the St Joseph Le Grand Pompée, a longstanding feature of the Jaboulet portfolio, named after a character in La Legende des Siècles by Victor Hugo. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s many of these wines provided fans of the Rhône Valley with some delicious and elegant drinking.

Vineyard and winery practices are modern and quality orientated, with destemming, separate vinification of individual plots prior to evaluation and limited use of press wine. There is, however, use of some cultivated yeast. New oak is used for the Hermitage Chevalier de Sterimberg only, the reds go into used barrels. With the acquisition of the business by the Frey family it should come as no surprise that many of these barrels are today first used at their Haut-Médoc estate, Chateau La Lagune, where there is a policy of 100% new oak each vintage, so there is a plentiful supply of one-year old barrels to be shipped over to Tain l'Hermitage. The use of oak at Jaboulet seems sensible, varying from six months for Domaine de Thalabert up to 18 months for Hermitage La Chapelle. The wines are filtered - possibly more than once - prior to bottling.

Unfortunately, although it is without doubt that La Chapelle has been magnificent in vintages as recent as 1995 and 1996, reports from 1998 onwards suggested that quality faltered - a travesty in great vintages such as 1998 and 1999. My own tastings of the La Chapelle cuvée from these two vintages would only support this finding; they are not shocking wines per se, but when one compares them with their peers, in the context of a great vintage, it quickly becomes clear that what should be one of the top wines of the vintage and region is seriously lacking. Is this drop off in quality related to the death of Gérard Jaboulet in 1997? My own suspicion is that this is probably the case, but I suppose only the Jaboulet family themselves can really answer this question. Whatever the cause, I can only hope that this cuvée, generally sourced from vines in Les Bessards, Les Greffieux and Le Méal on the hill of Hermitage - not from the vines around the chapel as is commonly thought - sees a return to form, and perhaps the firm's acquisition by the Frey family will provide the impetus necessary to ensure this happens. One very noticeable development in the short time since they took control of the domaine is price; often released with a price tag of about £40 in the UK, the 2006 just about topped en primeur lists with a figure more than double that, approaching £100 per bottle. I look forward with interest to the opportunity to taste these more recent vintages.

Sursøt tett frukt og et betydelig mørkere fruktbilde enn Chapelle 99. Noe italiensk over dette, fragrant og delikat munnfølelse med snev av sommerblomster. Tydelige tanniner, men samtidig elegant med skogsaromaer og krydrede blomsteressens. Jordbær, skogsbunn med kjølig og tøff struktur. Kanskje tanninene blir litt for tøffe for frukten. Genuin og korrekt 1999 årgang. Fremstår noe hard og ytterligere lagring anbefales. 93 poeng.

4th classified growth in 1855. The name of Marquis de Terme appears in 1762, when Miss Ledoulx d’Emplet brings the estate as a dowry to François Péguilhan, Marquis de Terme, coming from an old family who acquired its pedigree on the battlefield). The French Revolution will then implode the vineyard register in the region and many families will follow each other. One, however, marks the history of the growth during the nineteenth century. For more than one hundred and twenty years, the Feuillerat family will manage the estate. The three generations will constantly enhance the quality, by adopting a second mark for the wines which do not fulfill the criteria of classified growths, and by taking an active part in the creation of the Union of vineyards of Margaux whose founding president will be Armand Feuillerat. The crisis of 1929 forced the Feuillerat family to sale the estate to Pierre Sénéclauze in 1935. Dynamic and respectful of tradition, the family Sénéclauze, experienced in the export of wines of high quality from Algeria, will make the right choice by entrusting the reins of the field to their estate managers, whose total number is three: Alexandre Tolo until 1974, Jean-Pierre Hugon until 2008, Ludovic David since 2009. Major works are then undertaken: regrouping of lands in the fifties, construction of a new winery in 1981, renovation of the buildings in 1984 and numerous technical investments such as, thermoregulation in 1999. Today the chateau is managed by two sons of Peter Sénéclauze: Philip and Pierre-Louis

Mørk, blåbær, en opulent og frisk Bordeaux. Margaux sier Øyvind. En bra vin fra et bra år. 1989 eller 1990 ? Litt brett og snev av kork som whiffer av. Men en litt kjellermodus/soppgreie henger i. Moden vin, relativt typisk Pauillac, harmonisk og solid. 90 poeng.

Vi drakk denne på generalforsamlingen i mai 2010. Kandidat nr. 12 Bordeaux 1989. En solid, tørr og klassisk rød Bordeaux. Moden nå, drikker optimalt, med kaffe og brie på nesen. Viser at dette slottet kan lage fantastiske viner. 94 poeng og 4. plass

Lysere rød, elegant og frisk. Noe grønt, villbusk og villgjær i nesa. Tydelig Pinot, men mangler en del eleganse. Kanskje pga. årgangens litt rustikke og grønne stil. 90-92 poeng.

Hervé Souhaut selger denne vinen som en Vin de Table selv om vinmarken ligger innenfor Saint Joseph i Nord-Rhône. Vinstokkene er over 100 år gamle, og maserasjonen er lang og vinene tappes uten filtrering. Det som karakteriserer vinen er renhet, tydelighet og den er intens. Dufter rene bjørnebær med litt jod, den har en glatt tekstur med en tydelig mineralitet i ettersmaken som går i retning noe metallisk. Er ikke videre kompleks, men den begeistrer med sin skarpskårne minimalisme. Svært attraktiv.

 

Pinot Nero IGT 2009, Dalzocchio Elisabetta Rovereto

Kjølig, strukturert, konsentrert burgundersk stil. En "giving" og solid vin. En veldig bra "lurevin". 91 poeng. 

Located in the town of Rovereto, Trentino, in the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains, Elisabetta’s tiny estate, with only five hectare under vine, is devoted entirely to the production of Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir). Pinot Nero and Chardonnay were first planted by her father in 1979. The Chardonnay has since been removed and today a mere 760 cases of Pinot Nero are produced each year. Elisabetta’s first vintage was 1995 and viticulture has been biodynamic since 1999 and certified organic since 2001. The grapes are carefully selected in the vineyards, and harvested in 10 kilo crates. They are destemmed, not crushed, then transferred to oak vats. Vinification is in open oak vats, with spontaneous fermentation, respecting tradition. The grape bunches are partly de-stemmed and the only other operation is punching the cap. Maceration lasts 18-20 days. After fermentation the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, in their cellars dating from the end of the eighteenth century. The wine is released after an additional year in bottle.
