Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga 1997, Bruno Giacosa

"Armand Rousseau-smaking"  2.3.12:

Tørrer litt ut i ettersmak. 93 poeng.

Fra CT: Decanted for a bit over 4 hours. Ruby hue with some orange hints. Nose was lovely just after popping the bottle, full of pine forest, thyme, fennel, tar, violets, and mocca. Later in the evening, it would refresh with just a bit a swirling. The combination of tart, sweet, spicy raspberry and strawberry-inflected fruit and grippy tar and earth notes on the palate was exquisite. Each sip was a rolling, changing, layered event that made one pause to take it all in. Tannins were quite structured, adding a degree of aristocracy and gravitas, while acidity was still bright and energetic. Finish was long and beautiful, marked by echoes of earth, tar, dark fruit, and grip. An amazing wine tonight, full of Giacosa magic. 95p.
