Barolo Runcot Riserva 2004, Elio Grasso

Vinmøte Jon 18.4.2012:

Dyp purpur, norditaliensk frisk syre. Roser, fiol og blomsteraktig. En utrolig elegant vin. De fleste trodde dette var en Barbaresco fra Giacosa. En overdådig lekker parfyme perforerer vinen og gjør den utrolig sjarmerende. Asili 2005 ? Den beste Grasso vinen smakt ? 91-94 poeng.

Barolo Runcot is the riserva, cuvee and a single vineyard botteling from Elio Grasso. The wine is coming from one single vineyard, the Gavarini vineyard. The average age of the vines used to make the Barolo is 10-15 years. After vinifcation the wine matures for 28-30 months in new barriques of French oak. Bottling normally takes place in August. The wine then stays in the cellar for 18-24 months before release.
The 2004 vintage is an exceptional vintage for Barolo. It is one of the best vintages in history and comes in line with vintages as 1971, 1978, 1982, 1989, 1996, 1999 and 2001.
The Barolo Runcot is only produced in exceptional vintages. The total production is around 7.000 bottleskladblok

The 2004 Barolo Riserva Runcot offers up an intriguing array of licorice, tobacco, spices, plums and prunes. The purity of the fruit here is beyond striking, and the wine shows great intensity as well as superb overall balance. The Runcot saw 45 days of maceration on the skins and spent 36 months in 100% new French oak, all of which it has absorbed with impeccable elegance. I imagine the 2004 Runcot will continue to gain weight in bottle, but even if it doesn’t, it is pretty special today. What a beautiful wine! Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.
